As an adult or child, what do I need for a portrait photography session?
The following are suggestions only; each portraits photography session is individual and it is important that you feel comfortable with your choice of clothes, so that the pictures reflect your lifestyle.
Clothing:
Think about where you would like to hang your portraits on your walls...What colour are the walls, perhaps you may wish to choose clothing in colours that will compliment this room. Discuss as a family what to wear so that you can all harmonise. If your portraits photography is studio based you may like to wear bright colours which photographs well against the white backdrop but any colours are fine and the important thing is to wear what you know you feel good in. Please bring a couple of outfits with you.
Suggestions:
Evening dress; jeans; black trousers. Light colored body or top; long sleeved shirt; casual jumper; shoes, tights, but please bring what you feel happy and relaxed wearing.
Glasses:
Please note: If you wear glasses, tinted or reactolite can look very dark in the photographs.
What about clothes or toys for the children?
Please bring a couple of different outfits with you. Do not worry about bringing too much - the more choice the better!
Suggestions:
Denim jeans/dungarees etc. bright colored clothes; pinafore dresses; long shorts; hats and headbands, stripey tights, boots etc - in fact anything that looks good on your children. If your child has a favorite teddy/toy you may wish to include this. The more old fashioned ones look better. As we are intending capturing their childhood, their favorite toy will have a lot of sentimental value in the future - no matter how grubby it may seem now!
Babies and toddlers
Your appointment needs to be at a good time for your children. Tired or hungry children will not want to be photographed. If they are very young, please bring a drink in their bottle or beaker.
And finally......
Please do not worry that your child will not behave or smile - Helen has endless patience with children (except her own of course!); She likes to photograph children as they are, looking really natural. This photo shoot will be a lot of fun, and when children are enjoying themselves, they always look wonderful!
